[Flashback Friday] Peter, Paul, and Mary - Puff, the Magic Dragon

Today is Flashback Firday! So you know it's time for me to highlight a song that mattered to me when I was younger, just as much as it matters now. Today, I'm highlighting the 1963 track "Puff, the Magic Dragon" by Peter, Paul, and Mary.

I'm highlighting this song because I remember hearing this song when I was about 8 and the chorus was so catchy, that I remember singing in in elementary school and getting in trouble. Never knowing why until I was older and realized that they were talking about smoking weed. Jackie papers was the rolling papers and that mighty dragon (draggin') was a good hit of marijuana. 

Peter, Paul, and Mary made a hidden track all about promoting the use of marijuana and that's perfectly fine with me! It's my motto!

You'll see the 911 operator, news coverages, the interrogation room, and even the thoughts he had if he would have passed away in the incident. 

The song is touching and it sheds light on how fast a tragedy can happen and change your whole plan.

Que records a brand new verse and opens up on the song with an equally dope verse like the original and then the others step in. Snoop and Pusha T did well, but I don't know really what Ferg was talking about. Ha. This version will be on Que's forthcoming EP, Who Is Que?

[New Tunes] Pia Mia Feat. Chance The Rapper – Fight For You

The last song that was highlighted from the soundtrack for the upcoming motion picture Divergent was from Ellie Goulding. Now Pia Mia gives her offering from the soundtrack by releasing "Fight For You" which features Chance The Rapper.

The song has a smooth, but futuristic type sound to it which Pia Mia's voice sounds wonderful on top. Chance just comes in and delivers a solid verse, good seeing positive things go to both artist. Soundtracks are great to be apart of!

[New Video] Retro Sushi Feat. Rome Fortune - Zonin'

Late 2012, I was completely in love with Retro Sushi's Kung Fu In Japan mixtape. That tape was definitely a banger from beginning to end and one of my favorite tracks off that project was "Zonin'." So when the news circulated yesterday on twitter that they were dropping the video, total excitement filled my body!

So today, we finally have the video! Catch Cee-J and Jace rapping in the wilderness and having fun. If you speak Japanese, you can follow subtitles at the bottom of the video, if not, just shut up, watch and listen.

Diddy is back. The man that takes the crown in trash talk has dropped a new track "Big Homie" in which he grabs Rick Ross to assist him. 

Diddy just talks mad crazy and then Rick Ross joins in on the nonsense. Apparently we'll be getting a new Diddy album this year. Expect a lot of features, French Montana ad-libs, and crazy talk.

[New Tunes] Lupe Fiasco Feat. Ty Dolla $ign – $nitches + 30s ($nitches 2)

Talk about an unusual collaboration, Lupe and Ty Dolla $ign, who would have thought? Well, I guess being the fact that they are on the same record label makes for this weird collaboration. 

The first track is entitled "$nitches" which features Ty Dolla $ign and the second track is just Lupe by himself on a trace entitled "$nitches 2." Both are equally interesting, but nothing beats that Food & Liquor swag Lupe use to have.

Smoke Ono and Vic Mensa actually go together quite well when talking about music collaborations. Their last track "Magic" was a banger and now they bring us a brand new one entitled "Feel That."

The track is definitely has that jump factor that makes you rock your noggin' from side to side. Let's hope that Vic Mensa will grab Smoke Ono to executively produce his next album because it will be amazing!

Asher Roth is preparing for the release of his upcoming album RetroHash, which drops on April 22. The first release from the album is "Tangerine Girl." 

The entire album will be produced by Blended Babies and this track has a really retro sound that Asher Roth adapts well to and does his thing on it. The production is definitely A1, so if this is just one song, imagine what the entire project is going to sound like! Asher Roth has the voice that just works with every sound that is thrown his way, a wonderful trait to have.

Produced by Ohio native, Tha Audio Unit "Commitment Issues"  tells the story of a girl battling with trust issues all the while entertaining the "game" played by the men she encounters.

“Commitment Issues” catches your ears right from the beginning with the eerie yet truthful lines:
"Pillow grippin, sweat is drippin, liquor sippin, blur my vision. Baddest niggas, bad intentions, do 'em like it's new religion.."
Stoney continues to float throughout the song and ends it with a rather familiar sample. Can you name the movie it came from?

Zoogma took R.L. Burnside "Let My Baby Ride" and Young Buck "Shorty Wanna Ride" and created a mash entitled "Let My Shorty Ride."

Zoogma labels it as Electro-Blues and you can definitely see that! It rocks so smoothly that you'll be jamming to it subconsciously and enjoy every moment of it. It's definitely something different and something nice! I love it.

Amerigo Gazaway’s new *Soul Mates* series continues the theme of his previous work in creating collaborations that never were. On the series’ first installment, the producer unites Brooklyn rapper Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) and soul legend Marvin Gaye for a dream collaboration aptly titled “Yasiin Gaye”. Building the album’s foundation from deconstructed samples of Gaye’s Motown classics, Gazaway re-orchestrates the instrumentation into new productions within a similar framework. Carefully weaving Bey’s dense raps and Gaye’s soulful vocals over his new arrangements, the producer delivers a quality far closer to Gaye’s famous duets than that of a “mashup” album.

[Fashion] Backstage at Moschino A/W 2014

 

Jeremy Scott re-purposed Moschino's iconic belts for his first collection with the brand. Models were draped up and dripped out in gold chains, charms, and even Mercedes emblems. The garments took a nod from menswear with denim quilted snapbacks and with matching quilted bomber jackets. Quilted leather was also represented in the collection.

   

 

 

 

 It wouldn't be Jeremy Scott without in-your-face references to pop culture. From a fashion forward spin on the McDonalds logo, SpongeBob SquarePants' hilarious facial expressions, to gowns made from Hot Cheetos bags, there was plenty of humor in the collection.

CyHi drops off an 18-track tape that Kanye West executively produces and who would have guessed! The tape has a slew of other producers like Muhammed, TEC BEATZ, and a couple of more. He definitely keeps the feature list down to just King Louie, Marian Mereba, Miloh Smith, and a few others. The tape is definitely both educational and hip all in one. CyHi usually is a hit or miss when it comes to mixtapes, but this one is alright.

[Flashback Friday] Lil Wayne & The Sqad - We Are The Champions

Everyone talks about what Lil' Wayne they love and I always see Carters'. Well for me, I loved the Sqad Up Lil' Wayne, so it's only fitting that my Flashback Friday goes to the Sqad crew!

"We Are The Champions" is the track that I chose to highlight, it was probably one of my favorite joints from the Sqad Up mixtape series back when the internet was rarely used! I think everyone who had a verse completely murdered it! This was when Wayne is total organic and dope and that's all my opinion!
